This is a beautiful example of a mid-20th-century American jacquard-woven wool throw or blanket. Unlike a quilt, which is constructed by piecing fabric together, this piece was created on a loom, where the pattern is woven directly into the structure of the fabric.

Here is a breakdown of what makes this piece unique:

1. The Maker and Era

Based on the label, this blanket is from the "Golden Dawn" line.

  • The Manufacturer: "Golden Dawn" was a well-known brand of high-quality wool blankets produced by the Lebanon Woolen Mills of Lebanon, Tennessee.

  • The Era: The style of the label—specifically the mention of "AMUNO"—dates this blanket to the late 1940s or 1950s.

  • The "AMUNO" Process: The label proudly notes that the wool was "Processed with AMUNO to resist moth damage." Amuno was a moth-proofing treatment developed by Merck & Co. that became a major selling point for mid-century woolen goods. Seeing this on a label today is a testament to the brand's commitment to quality at the time.

2. Design and Aesthetics

The aesthetic is classic mid-century "Cottagecore" or romantic floral design, which was immensely popular for bedroom decor during that period.

  • The Motif: The center features a geometric, cross-shaped medallion filled with smaller floral sprigs, which is framed by a bold, dramatic border of oversized, realistic blooming roses.

  • The Technique: Because this was produced on a Jacquard loom, it is double-sided. The reverse side features the same pattern, but with the colors inverted—the blue roses appear on a cream field, and the cream roses appear on a blue field. This is the hallmark of a high-quality, reversible jacquard weave.

3. Material and Care

  • Fiber: The tag explicitly states it is "ALL WOOL". In the mid-20th century, wool blankets were household staples, favored for their incredible insulation and durability.

  • Condition: Given the visibility of the weave, the wool appears to be in excellent condition. It has retained its "loft"—the soft, slightly fuzzy texture that traps heat.

This is a fantastic vintage find. Lebanon Woolen Mills blankets are highly collectible today, especially when they retain their original, legible tags. It’s a perfect bridge between mid-century industrial manufacturing and timeless, romantic design.
